Axel Mark Co. has agreed to purchase game developer Spiral Sense for an undisclosed amount, strengthening its position in Japan’s competitive mobile gaming and XR development markets.
The Tokyo-based company will acquire all 425 shares of Spiral Sense, with the transaction expected to close April 25, according to a statement released Thursday. Established in 2011, Spiral Sense specializes in game applications, XR development, and web systems with titles including “How Far Can You Go” and “Virtual Model House” in its portfolio.
Spiral Sense reported net assets of ¥45.1 million ($300,000) for the fiscal year ended February 2024, a 9% increase from the previous year. However, the firm’s operating profit plunged to ¥2.6 million from ¥14.9 million a year earlier, suggesting volatility in its business performance.
Axel Mark, which focuses on mobile game development and internet advertising, plans to integrate Spiral Sense as a consolidated subsidiary beginning in the third quarter of fiscal 2025. The financial impact of the acquisition is still being assessed, the company said.
The acquisition comes as Japan’s gaming companies face increasing pressure to expand technological capabilities amid fierce competition in the growing XR and mobile gaming sectors.
