Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings Corp. reported a deeper operating loss in the first half as its content business struggled with weaker animation and program sales.
The Osaka-based broadcaster’s operating loss widened to 1.16 billion yen ($7.7 million) in the six months through September from 992 million yen a year earlier. Revenue dipped 0.3% to 41.7 billion yen.
The company’s content segment saw sales drop 9.2% to 9 billion yen, while its core broadcasting unit managed a 2.3% increase to 26.1 billion yen. Advertising revenue from spot commercials improved slightly as sectors like automobiles and cosmetics boosted spending.
Despite current headwinds, Asahi Broadcasting projects a turnaround in the full year ending March 2025, forecasting operating profit to surge 164% to 2.2 billion yen on revenue of 91 billion yen.
The company maintained its annual dividend forecast at 12 yen per share as it navigates through challenging market conditions in Japan’s broadcasting industry.
