Aeria Inc. returned to profitability in the second quarter after real estate transactions helped offset continued weakness in its core gaming operations and a broader revenue decline.
The Tokyo-based company reported operating profit of ¥423 million ($2.9 million) for the six months ended June, reversing a ¥370 million loss in the same period last year. Revenue fell 13.1% to ¥8.29 billion ($57.2 million), according to the company’s Wednesday filing.
The turnaround was largely driven by Aeria’s asset management division, where several profitable property deals helped boost segment operating profit 101% to ¥369 million despite a 25% drop in segment revenue to ¥3 billion. The unit benefited from higher-margin property transactions even as construction delays reduced overall sales volume.
Aeria’s content business, which develops mobile games and sells character merchandise, remained in the red with a ¥4 million operating loss, though this represented a significant improvement from the ¥506 million loss posted a year earlier. While content and goods sales showed signs of recovery, the company cited revenue recognition delays for the segment’s continued struggle.
The IT services division posted a modest ¥58 million operating profit, recovering from a ¥48 million loss last year, though revenue edged down 0.7% to ¥876 million as affiliate advertising sales declined.
The company maintained its full-year forecasts, projecting revenue of ¥22.5 billion and operating profit of ¥700 million for the fiscal year ending December 2025. Net profit is expected at ¥300 million, reversing last year’s ¥739 million loss.
