Taiwan’s Advantech Co. is partnering with Qualcomm Technologies Inc. to accelerate AI-powered Internet of Things applications, as competition intensifies in the industrial edge computing market.
The collaboration, announced Monday before the Computex trade show in Taipei, establishes Advantech as a key partner in Qualcomm’s IoT ecosystem. The industrial computer manufacturer will integrate Qualcomm’s technologies into its edge computing and AI platforms.
Advantech plans to incorporate Qualcomm’s recently launched Dragonwing processors across multiple product categories, including embedded modules featuring the QCS6490 chip, smart panels, AI cameras, and edge AI systems built on the IQ8 and IQ9 platforms. These solutions target applications in robotics, smart manufacturing, healthcare, retail, and urban infrastructure.
Jeff Chang, president of Advantech’s Embedded IoT Group, indicated the partnership would help scale intelligent edge solutions and speed implementation of next-generation AI in various industries.
The companies will also jointly develop Edge AI development tools, combining Advantech’s embedded market expertise with Qualcomm’s platform capabilities and Advantech’s EdgeAI SDK to provide low-code model training tools.
While the partnership could strengthen Advantech’s position in intelligent edge computing, the company faces increasing pressure as more technology firms pursue similar industrial AI hardware strategies.
