Acer Inc. plans to acquire stakes in two technology companies for NT$3.45 billion ($109 million), expanding its footprint in artificial intelligence and internet of things solutions as the PC maker diversifies beyond its core business.

The Taiwanese company will purchase 25.6% of Enrich Investment Inc. and fully acquire Embedded City Limited, according to a statement Thursday. The transaction will give Acer indirect control of Embedded City Taiwan Limited and boost its holding in Posiflex Technology Inc. to approximately 29% of total shares.

The deal follows Acer’s purchase of 10.8% of Posiflex’s preferred shares through indirect investments in early 2024. Posiflex specializes in point-of-sale terminals and self-service kiosks used in retail and hospitality sectors.

Acer aims to leverage Posiflex’s Scenario-Defined Appliance business model, which provides integrated solutions from supply chain to maintenance services. The company plans to use its global presence and service network through subsidiaries Enfinitec and Highpoint Service Network to support Posiflex’s international expansion.

The acquisition signals Acer’s push to strengthen its business-to-business operations as global PC demand remains volatile. The company will work with Esquarre Capital, which led Posiflex’s transformation, and the founding families to support future development.
