Acer Inc. and the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation unveiled Taiwan’s first AI-equipped digital train, integrating advanced safety monitoring systems with immersive advertising technology.
The train features Acer’s Smart Safety Rapid Reporting Platform that provides real-time detection of abnormal passenger behavior, confrontations, and crowding levels. The system combines Acer’s proprietary AI algorithms with NVIDIA edge computing devices to display incident footage directly to train operators, enabling immediate response to potential security threats.
Future capabilities may include a “one-second train clearing detection” model to improve operational efficiency and AI environmental sound analysis that can distinguish passenger screams to precisely detect emergencies.
Beyond safety features, the digital train incorporates Acer’s SpatialLabs technology, delivering glasses-free 3D advertising experiences through advanced optical, eye-tracking, and real-time rendering solutions.
The six-car train hosts 108 horizontal and 72 vertical screens throughout its carriages, supported by Acer’s custom digital advertising management system. The platform integrates ad placement, review, monitoring, and management functions, allowing advertisers to target specific screens, carriages, or the entire train.
Acer Taiwan’s Chief Operating Officer Chang Shih-hsin highlighted the company’s ongoing development of AI cloud and edge computing integration for everyday applications, while Taipei MRT’s Deputy General Manager Chen Jian-cai emphasized how AI enhances safety monitoring capabilities.
