Samsung Electronics has introduced the industry’s first PCIe 4.0 automotive SSD, the AM9C1, featuring its eighth-generation vertical NAND (V-NAND) technology. Designed to meet the growing demands of autonomous driving and AI-enabled automotive systems, the SSD offers significantly improved power efficiency—up by 50% compared to its predecessor, the AM991.
The new 256GB AM9C1 model boasts sequential read speeds of up to 4,400MB/s and write speeds of 400MB/s, providing optimal performance for automotive applications requiring high-speed data processing. Additionally, when operating in single-level cell (SLC) mode, the SSD can achieve read speeds of up to 4,700MB/s and write speeds of 1,400MB/s, enhancing reliability and performance.
Samsung plans to offer a range of storage capacities, from 128GB to 2TB, with the 2TB model set to enter mass production early next year. The AM9C1 meets stringent automotive standards, including AEC-Q100 Grade 2, and undergoes rigorous quality tests to ensure performance in extreme temperature conditions.
By incorporating leading-edge technology and industry certifications like ASPICE CL3 and ISO/SAE 21434, Samsung continues to solidify its position as a key player in the automotive memory market, addressing the needs of autonomous vehicle makers worldwide.
