Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, will invest $1.8 billion in a new OLED display factory in northern Vietnam. The facility, set to be built in Bac Ninh’s Yen Phong industrial park, will produce displays for automobiles and tech devices. This investment increases Samsung’s total commitment in the region to $8.3 billion.
Bac Ninh province, already home to several Samsung operations, continues to be a key production hub for the South Korean conglomerate. The memorandum of understanding for the project was signed following a meeting between Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Samsung’s local leadership. The new factory is strategically located near an existing Samsung Electronics plant.
Samsung has invested heavily in Vietnam over the past decade, building six manufacturing plants and a research center, with total investments reaching $22.4 billion. The company’s expansion in Vietnam highlights the country’s growing importance as a manufacturing hub for global electronics firms, as it offers competitive labor costs and an increasingly skilled workforce.
The investment underscores Samsung’s strategy to boost its OLED production capacity, particularly as demand grows for displays in electric vehicles and other advanced technology products.
