Samsung C&T Corp., a major player in global construction, has achieved a remarkable feat with the completion of the world’s second tallest building, Merdeka 118, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Towering at an impressive 679 meters, this architectural marvel features 118 floors above ground and an additional five underground, making it a new icon in the Malaysian skyline.

The Merdeka 118 is not just about its height; it encompasses a massive total floor space of 673,862 square meters. This complex is designed to be a multifunctional hub, housing a luxury hotel, a shopping mall, and residential spaces, thus offering a blend of commercial and residential solutions in one structure.

A notable aspect of this construction is the extensive use of materials, highlighted by the 40,000 kilometers of steel bars incorporated into the structure. This detail not only speaks to the building’s immense scale but also to the engineering prowess involved in its construction.

Samsung C&T’s history with iconic Malaysian structures dates back to 1998, with the completion of the Petronas Twin Towers, which stood as the tallest building in Malaysia at that time. Since then, the company has been instrumental in shaping the country’s skyline, contributing to various high-rise projects including Star Residences and the Sapura Building.

The completion of Merdeka 118 represents more than just a construction milestone; it is a testament to Samsung C&T’s enduring legacy in the field of high-rise building construction. This achievement in Kuala Lumpur underscores the company’s expertise and commitment to pushing the boundaries of architectural design and engineering, further cementing its position as a leader in the global construction industry.
