Samsung Electronics is buying Germany’s FläktGroup for €1.5 billion ($1.68 billion) from European investment firm Triton, marking its largest acquisition since Harman International in 2016. The purchase strengthens Samsung’s position in the rapidly growing HVAC sector against rivals like LG Electronics.

The century-old FläktGroup supplies high-efficiency cooling systems to over 60 major clients, including data centers, hospitals, airports, and pharmaceutical companies. Samsung is betting on surging data center demand driven by generative AI and autonomous technologies, with that market expected to grow 18% annually compared to 8% for the broader HVAC industry.

For Samsung, the move represents a significant push into a new growth area amid struggles in other business segments. The company reported its HVAC division has achieved double-digit annual revenue growth over the past five years and aims to boost revenue by more than 30% in 2025. This acquisition follows Samsung’s joint venture with Lennox International last year to strengthen its North American market presence.

The deal, expected to close this year, will combine Samsung’s building integration system with FläktGroup’s HVAC control solution to offer comprehensive energy management services.
