Kakao Entertainment and SM Entertainment’s North American venture is teaming up with US music label gamma. to debut British boy group dearALICE, marking a unique cross-cultural collaboration in the music industry.
The partnership, announced Monday, will oversee the group’s debut album production, distribution, and marketing across North America, Europe, and Asia. The group’s first single is set to drop by the end of 2023.
The deal adds another high-profile project to gamma.’s roster, which already includes partnerships with Usher and Snoop Dogg. The label, founded in 2023 by former Apple Music creative director Larry Jackson and ex-Interscope CFO Ike Youssef, sees this venture as an opportunity to tap into the Korean music industry’s expertise.
The project has already gained international attention through a six-part documentary series on BBC One titled “Made in Korea: The K-pop Experience,” which chronicles the group’s journey. The show’s distribution by ITV Studios has helped build anticipation for dearALICE’s debut.
The collaboration represents a strategic move by the Korean entertainment powerhouses to leverage their K-pop expertise in developing a Western act, while gamma. brings its mainstream music industry connections to the table.
