Hyundai Motor Company has finalized its acquisition of Hyundai Mobis’s domestic hydrogen fuel cell business, a crucial step in its clean energy strategy. The acquisition, completed on June 9, unifies the previously separate R&D and production segments, enhancing Hyundai’s technological edge and production quality.
Initiated by a transfer agreement in February, the integration process saw Hyundai Motor Company absorb facilities, assets, and personnel from Hyundai Mobis. This consolidation effort includes the establishment of a new ‘Hydrogen Fuel Cell Process Quality Office’ at Hyundai’s R&D headquarters, tasked with overseeing manufacturing technology and mass production standards.
President Jang Jae-hoon reaffirmed Hyundai’s commitment to the hydrogen sector, highlighting plans to strengthen group-wide collaboration and expand the hydrogen business foundation. Future endeavors include broadening the application of hydrogen fuel cells beyond vehicles to power generation, trams, ships, and advanced air mobility, with a new NEXO model anticipated by 2025.
The move aligns with global trends toward clean energy, positioning Hyundai as a leader in hydrogen technology, crucial for reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainable transportation.
