TVing, South Korea’s second-largest over-the-top (OTT) platform, a subsidiary of CJ ENM, has recently outpaced Netflix in daily viewing hours, driven by popular series such as “Lovely Runner,” “Queen of Tears,” and “Marry My Husband.” These shows, produced by Studio Dragon Corp. and aired on tvN, have significantly boosted TVing’s market presence.

On May 28, TVing recorded 2.5 million viewing hours, surpassing Netflix’s 2.4 million, according to data from Mobile Index Insight. This milestone marks the first time a South Korean streaming platform has beaten Netflix in daily viewing time.

TVing has also been closing the gap with Netflix in terms of daily active users (DAU). As of May 28, TVing’s DAU stood at 2.17 million, just 130,000 short of Netflix’s 2.30 million, marking the narrowest difference yet.

The final episode of “Lovely Runner,” which aired on May 28, contributed significantly to TVing’s viewing hours. The show dominated domestic OTT rankings throughout its two-month run, and its 16 episodes amassed a total of 26.7 million viewing hours, second only to “Queen of Tears.”

To further enhance its content offering, TVing has secured exclusive streaming rights for new tvN series and will continue to release flagship episodes on Mondays and Tuesdays, strategically targeting low Netflix viewer days. Additionally, TVing has exclusive online broadcasting rights for the Korea Baseball Organization league, which commenced in March.

Through its strategic content partnerships and original productions, TVing continues to challenge Netflix’s dominance, steadily growing its user base and viewing metrics.
