The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has announced the launch of the CESA Game Industry Report, replacing its former Game White Paper. Scheduled for release on December 20, 2024, this report aims to deliver comprehensive data on both the domestic and global gaming markets. Priced at 55,000 yen (US$370), it will offer in-depth analysis of industry trends and market size.
Preliminary data from the 2024 report indicates that Japan’s game market, excluding hardware, grew by 2% in 2023, reaching 1.858 trillion yen (US$13.4 billion). PC games were a key growth driver, surging 25%, while mobile games experienced a slight decline. Globally, the gaming market is expanding rapidly, with 2023 figures reaching 29.5 trillion yen (US$214 billion), a 10% increase from the previous year.
CESA’s new report, which parallels industry reports from sectors like anime and film, also reveals employment statistics, estimating 200,000 people work in Japan’s game industry, with core roles earning an average annual salary of 7.08 million yen (US$47,500). The report is expected to be a valuable resource for tracking ongoing industry developments and opportunities.
