KT Corp has completed Thailand’s first Korean-built generative AI infrastructure in collaboration with Jasmine Technology Solution (JTS), marking the South Korean telecom provider’s initial foreign deployment of end-to-end AI technology.
The platform, announced Monday, includes a Thai language-specific large language model (LLM), an LLM operations management system, and a GPU Farm infrastructure for data processing. The AI system supports Thai, English, and Korean languages and has been trained on extensive Thai datasets to accurately respond to queries about local politics, history, and culture.
The project began in March 2023 when KT signed a contract with JTS and developed the platform in collaboration with Korean AI startup Upstage, in which KT invested 10 billion won ($7 million) in 2023. JTS plans to leverage the infrastructure to provide GPU-as-a-Service offerings to Thai companies and institutions.
The initiative addresses the linguistic limitations of existing AI models, which are predominantly trained on English data. Lee Jin Hyoung, KT’s vice president for AI business and investment, said the successful development demonstrates the company’s global capabilities in AI, adding that KT will continue diversifying its AI and cloud services through strategic alliances with Microsoft and Palantir.
The Southeast Asian generative AI market is projected to reach $7.65 billion by 2030, up from $1.41 billion in 2023. KT is positioning this Thai partnership as a springboard for further expansion into Southeast Asia and potentially the Middle East and Europe.
