KT Corporation and Microsoft have signed a multibillion-dollar strategic partnership aimed at transforming the AI, cloud, and IT sectors in South Korea. Announced on September 29, 2024, the partnership will span five years and leverage Microsoft’s advanced AI technologies, including GPT-4 and Copilot, to create AI models optimized for Korean industries and culture.

The collaboration includes co-developing Korea-specific cloud solutions, particularly for the public and financial sectors, and the creation of an AI transformation (AX) specialized company. The companies will also establish an “Innovation Center” at KT’s Gwanghwamun headquarters, serving as a hub for AI and cloud R&D in South Korea. The center will support startups and foster AI talent through joint educational programs.

This partnership represents a major step in South Korea’s AI development, with KT positioning itself to become a leader in AI and cloud services both domestically and globally. Microsoft will provide its full technology stack to accelerate AI transformation across industries, contributing to the growth of South Korea’s tech ecosystem.
