Hyundai Heavy Industries Power Systems (HPS) has embarked on a collaborative venture with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) and CE-TEK Ltd. to pioneer onboard carbon capture systems (OCCS) for LNG-powered vessels, targeting a rollout by mid-2025. This initiative is a proactive response to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) rigorous decarbonization regulations, aiming to significantly reduce maritime carbon emissions. HPS is tasked with developing the carbon capture technology, CE-TEK will enhance the solvent for CO2 extraction from ship exhausts, and KSOE will integrate this technology with their advanced ship systems, promoting operational efficiency. This development is crucial for meeting the IMO’s carbon reduction goals, including a 30% reduction by 2030 and striving for full decarbonization by 2050. HPS, a subsidiary of the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, is expanding its technological portfolio to support global climate change mitigation through innovative marine solutions.
