Hanwha Q CELLS, a subsidiary of Hanwha Solutions, announced the commencement of construction for a 257-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Weld County, Colorado, during a groundbreaking ceremony held on July 10. This significant project, in partnership with the Platte River Power Authority (PRPA), involves comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services provided by Hanwha Q CELLS.
The new solar plant will cover approximately 1,400 acres, equivalent to the size of 790 football fields, and will feature over 540,000 solar modules. Scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2025, the plant will deliver renewable energy under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the PRPA, enhancing the region’s renewable energy capacity.
This initiative underscores Hanwha Q CELLS’ ongoing commitment to expanding its footprint in the U.S. renewable energy market. In May, the company completed a 50 MW solar module and 200 megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage system project, now supplying renewable power to tech giant Meta. Additionally, in April, Hanwha Q CELLS finished developing a 150 MW solar power plant in Wyoming, including module supply and EPC work.
By consistently delivering large-scale green energy projects, Hanwha Q CELLS is playing a pivotal role in advancing the U.S. renewable energy sector, providing sustainable power solutions to meet growing demand and supporting environmental goals.
