Hanwha Ocean clinches a significant victory by securing the order for the third ship, ‘Batch-II,’ of the 3,600-ton ‘Jang Bogo-III’ submarine. The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) finalized the selection of Hanwha Ocean as the preferred bidder in the bidding process, with the contract’s estimated value reaching approximately 1 trillion won. Industry insiders anticipate additional negotiations between Hanwha Ocean and DAPA, leading to the finalization of the main bidding within the year.
The ‘Jang Bogo-III’ Batch-II submarine serves as a medium-sized successor to the first generation, ‘Dosan Ahn Chang-ho.’ Hanwha Ocean highlights the submarine’s advanced features, including a hybrid diesel propulsion system incorporating ‘air-independent propulsion (AIP)’ for submersion without air and a lithium-ion battery. Compared to Batch-I, the new submarine boasts a more than threefold increase in diving time, thanks to the enhanced propulsion system.
Having previously secured orders for the first and second ships of Jang Bogo-III Batch-II, Hanwha Ocean expresses its commitment to engaging in constructive negotiations with DAPA for the main contract, aiming for the successful completion of the Jang Bogo-III Batch-II project.
