South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean Co. announced a strategic partnership with three Canadian companies at CANSEC, Canada’s largest defense exhibition. The collaboration involves CAE Inc., Curtiss-Wright Indal Technologies Corp., and Gastops Ltd., focusing on advancing submarine technology and securing government contracts.

At the Deep Blue Forum 2023, a submarine specialist forum, Hanwha Ocean and CAE signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). This relationship has now been elevated to a teaming agreement, underscoring their commitment to joint efforts. Additionally, Hanwha Ocean has signed MOUs with Curtiss-Wright for towed sonar operating systems and with Gastops for propulsion system control, modeling, and simulation.

These partnerships aim to foster technology exchange, joint research and development, and market development. Hanwha Ocean’s collaboration with these Canadian firms is designed to position them favorably for upcoming submarine projects promoted by the Canadian government, which plans to replace its four Victoria-class submarines.

By leveraging local expertise and expanding cooperative efforts, Hanwha Ocean seeks to enhance its technological capabilities and secure a foothold in the competitive submarine project market in Canada.
