Hana Financial Group and SK Telecom Co. have acquired significant stakes in BitGo Korea, the local unit of the global digital asset trust company BitGo. The strategic partnership was announced during Korea Blockchain Week 2024 in Seoul, where it was revealed that Hana Financial now holds a 25% share, while SK Telecom has secured a 10% stake in BitGo Korea.

This equity participation marks a key step towards the institutionalization of virtual assets in South Korea. BitGo Korea views the involvement of these major players as crucial for bolstering the credibility and security of digital asset management within the country. By leveraging BitGo’s extensive experience and technological expertise from the global market, the partnership is expected to enhance the infrastructure supporting South Korea’s burgeoning digital asset sector.

The move aligns with Hana Financial Group’s and SK Telecom’s broader strategies to expand their presence in the digital finance space. As South Korea continues to evolve as a hub for blockchain and digital assets, the collaboration between these industry leaders is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of institutional digital asset management in the region.
