Foxconn is finalizing an agreement to supply electric buses to Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus, marking the Taiwanese manufacturer’s latest push into Japan’s commercial vehicle market, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The deal would see Daimler Truck-owned Mitsubishi Fuso sell Foxconn’s Model T bus and Model U microbus under its own branding, representing the Japanese company’s inaugural electric bus offerings. The partners are exploring creation of a joint venture to manage the bus operations, the person said.

The arrangement builds on Foxconn’s expanding automotive ambitions following a May agreement with Mitsubishi Motors to supply electric vehicles for Australia and New Zealand. Foxconn previously indicated it planned to launch the bus models in Japan by 2027.

The timing coincides with significant upheaval at Mitsubishi Fuso, which is being merged with Toyota’s Hino Motors under a new holding company by April 2026. The restructuring aims to create a stronger competitor in Asia’s commercial vehicle sector as the industry grapples with electrification demands.

For Foxconn, the potential bus contract would validate its strategy of leveraging electronics expertise to secure manufacturing deals with established automakers. The iPhone assembler has struggled to gain traction in the competitive electric vehicle market despite years of investment.
