In a surprising shift in the global PC market, Asus has overtaken Apple to become the fourth-largest notebook company by shipments, according to recent data from research firm IDC. The Taiwanese manufacturer saw a 10% year-on-year increase in shipments, reaching 5.5 million units and capturing a 7.9% market share in the third quarter of 2023.
This growth stands in stark contrast to Apple’s performance, which experienced a significant 24.2% decline in shipments, dropping to 5.3 million units and a 7.8% market share. The shift marks the largest decline among the top six PC manufacturers.
Lenovo maintained its leading position with 16.5 million units shipped and a 24% market share, followed by HP and Dell. Acer rounded out the top six with 4.5 million units shipped and a 6.6% market share.
The overall global PC market continued to face challenges, with IDC reporting a decline in shipments for the quarter. However, Asus’s strategic product operations appear to have bucked this trend, positioning the company for potential further gains in the competitive landscape.
