Uni-President Enterprises and its subsidiary President Chain Store confirmed the final transaction price for acquiring full ownership of Carrefour Taiwan at NT$301 billion ($9.7 billion), approximately NT$10 billion below initial estimates.

The Taiwanese conglomerate group completed the takeover in June 2023, initially paying about $1 billion for the French parent company’s 60% stake. According to the share purchase agreement, the definitive amount was determined two years post-closing after accounting for Carrefour Taiwan’s cash position and other adjustments, the companies said Monday in regulatory filings.

The acquisition gives Uni-President control of 63 hypermarkets and 302 supermarkets generating roughly NT$80 billion in annual revenue. Combined with its existing 7-Eleven convenience store network, the group now leads Taiwan’s hypermarket sector and ranks second in supermarkets.

The deal reshapes Taiwan’s retail landscape, leaving domestic operators Uni-President, PXMart and A-Mart dominating the market alongside U.S.-based Costco. Carrefour Taiwan has been integrated into Uni-President’s OPENPOINT loyalty program, allowing customers to redeem points across at least 14 retail brands including Starbucks and Cosmed.

Chairman Lo Chih-hsien has pursued aggressive expansion into digital commerce, recently acquiring Yahoo Taiwan’s e-commerce business and taking a stake in PChome Online. Uni-President reported third-quarter net income of NT$5.99 billion ($193 million), down 1% year-over-year, with nine-month earnings totaling NT$16.66 billion.
