Uni-President Group has finalized a joint venture with Yahoo for its Taiwan e-commerce business, acquiring an 80% stake in the newly formed entity. Yahoo will retain a 20% share in the venture, which is set to ramp up operations for the upcoming peak shopping season.
The partnership, approved by Taiwan’s Fair Council, represents a significant investment, with Uni-President pledging over $100 million in resources. The group’s extensive portfolio, including brands like 7-ELEVEN, Starbucks, and Carrefour, will be leveraged to enhance the e-commerce platform, improve logistics, and broaden the product range.
Yahoo Taiwan’s CEO, Huang Jile, has been appointed as the CEO of the joint venture, tasked with steering the strategic vision and integrating efforts between Uni-President and Yahoo’s various business units. The collaboration will continue to operate under the Yahoo Taiwan e-commerce brand, with Yahoo providing technical support.
Yahoo’s other divisions, such as its media content, finance, and advertising services, remain unaffected by the transaction and will continue under Yahoo Group’s management. This joint venture aims to optimize the consumer shopping experience by expanding offerings and improving operational efficiency.
