Thunder Tiger Corp. reported a striking 273% year-on-year increase in March net income as the Taiwanese unmanned systems manufacturer expands beyond aerial drones into maritime defense technology.

The company’s March consolidated revenue reached NT$114 million (US$3.5 million), jumping 48% from the previous year, while net profit hit NT$19 million (US$590,000) with earnings per share of NT$0.12, according to a regulatory filing Wednesday.

Thunder Tiger’s financial performance comes as the company prepares its flagship SeaShark 800 unmanned surface vessel for Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology performance tests in June. The self-destructing attack boat represents the company’s push into higher-value defense applications amid rising regional tensions.

The company has evolved from its origins as a radio-controlled model manufacturer established in 1979 to becoming a significant player in Taiwan’s defense sector. Its portfolio now includes unmanned technology spanning air, surface, and underwater applications.

Thunder Tiger’s ambitious expansion into military-grade unmanned systems aligns with Taiwan’s broader strategy to develop asymmetric warfare capabilities. The upcoming performance tests, which have attracted six manufacturers, could position the company for potential defense contracts as the island strengthens its maritime security posture.
