President Tsai Ing-wen met with Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corporation (NTT) Chairman Jun Sawada on the 24th, highlighting Taiwan’s dedication to advancing technologies such as AI, 5G, and 6G in recent years. President Tsai emphasized the establishment of a digital development department last year, working in tandem with inter-ministerial committees like the National Science Council to drive various policies and progress toward the goal of becoming a digital nation. Acknowledging NTT Group’s leadership in the technology market, President Tsai expressed eagerness for continued collaboration to achieve mutual goals.

President Tsai extended a warm welcome to Chairman Sawada and acknowledged Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Company as a longstanding supporter of Taiwan. Chairman Sawada, in his role since last year, has actively championed optical communication technology and expressed anticipation for advancements in 6G communication technology to foster societal change and improve well-being. President Tsai conveyed gratitude to NTT for facilitating Taiwan’s participation in the “IOWN Global Forum,” a platform that enabled constructive discussions on the blueprint for next-generation optical communication technology with international counterparts.

Highlighting the recent memorandum of cooperation on the “Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN)” between NTT and Chunghwa Telecom, President Tsai noted the importance of this collaboration in accelerating the implementation and application of IOWN technology in Taiwan. This partnership is expected to provide diversified information and communication services to the public. President Tsai looks forward to deeper cooperation in the information and communications field between Taiwan and Japan, with Chairman Sawada’s continued support.

In the face of post-epidemic challenges, President Tsai emphasized Taiwan’s proactive stance in promoting industry investment in international communications organizations and strategic technological layouts. Recognizing NTT Group as an influential technology leader, President Tsai anticipates fruitful collaborations in the future, aiming to jointly create significant results and contribute to technological advancements on a global scale.
