ADATA Technology Chairman Simon Chen announced plans to produce a movie chronicling Taiwan’s unexpected victory at the 2024 World Baseball Classic Premier12 tournament. The film, tentatively titled “Road to Championship – Team Taiwan,” is set to begin production in the first half of 2025.
The memory chip maker’s chief estimates the project will cost more than NT$100 million ($3.2 million). Chen is seeking additional backing from Taiwan’s National Development Fund and the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, while maintaining personal investment in the venture alongside ADATA and Taiwan Sports Lottery.
The announcement drew support from Taiwan’s financial sector heavyweights, including CTBC Financial Holding and Fubon Group executives who attended the press briefing. The project aims to capture Taiwan’s journey to its first major international baseball championship, culminating in a historic victory at the Tokyo Dome.
Chen, an alumnus of a renowned baseball school in Puzi, has previously supported rural baseball programs through equipment donations. The chairman coordinated with Taiwan Sports Lottery in 2019 to provide baseball gear to his alma mater and several rural elementary schools.
The film’s director and cast are yet to be selected.
