South Korea’s memory chip exports to Taiwan surged over 225% in the first half of the year, driven by escalating demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) products in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence (AI) sector. According to data from the Ministry of Trade and the Korea International Trade Association, shipments to Taiwan reached $4.26 billion, significantly surpassing the nation’s overall memory chip export growth of 88.7%.

Taiwan has become the third-largest importer of South Korean memory chips, moving ahead of Vietnam and the United States. Analysts attribute this increase primarily to SK hynix Inc.’s supply of HBM products to Nvidia Corp., a leading AI chipmaker. Nvidia relies on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for packaging its AI accelerators, which incorporate HBM products from SK hynix.
