Anime production powerhouse A-1 Pictures, in collaboration with Sony Group’s NFT division SNFT, is set to launch a novel venture in the digital collectibles market. Starting July 24, 2024, the company will auction “Lycoris Recoil NFT by A-1 Pictures,” marking a significant shift in how intermediate anime production materials are commercialized.
“Lycoris Recoil,” an anime series that gained massive popularity since its initial airing from July to September 2022, will be the first to see its production assets turned into non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This includes unique items such as director’s corrections, keyboard drawings, background art, and eye-catches from the series. In total, 151 distinct NFTs will be available, each promising to ignite the collector’s spirit among fans.
Unlike conventional NFTs, which often involve newly created digital art, this initiative leverages actual production elements from the anime, ensuring each NFT’s uniqueness and authenticity through blockchain technology. This move aims not only to offer fans exclusive content but also to create a revenue stream that benefits the original creators, with a portion of sales being distributed back to them.
The auction will be conducted online, with bidding starting on July 24 and concluding on August 4, 2024. Successful bidders will have their ownership recorded in the item’s data, with the option to resell on the SNFT marketplace.
This innovative approach by A-1 Pictures and Sony underscores a broader trend of integrating blockchain technology within the entertainment industry, potentially setting a precedent for future digital collectible markets.
