Sony Honda Mobility is entering the premium electric vehicle market with its first model, positioning itself against Tesla and other luxury EV makers. The AFEELA 1, set for California sales in 2025, will be manufactured at an Ohio plant with deliveries starting mid-2026.
The automaker plans two versions of the vehicle: a base model at $89,900 and a higher-end Signature trim at $102,900. Both prices include a three-year subscription package covering driver assistance features and entertainment services.
The joint venture between Sony Group and Honda Motor Co. emphasizes technology integration, equipping the car with 40 sensors including cameras, radar, and LiDAR. The vehicle’s computer system delivers up to 800 TOPS of processing power, enabling advanced driver assistance and entertainment features.
The company claims its noise-canceling technology and Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound system will provide superior audio quality. Interior materials reflect environmental considerations, with about 70% of surface areas using plant-derived or recycled materials.
The AFEELA 1 will be compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network across the US. While targeting a 300-mile range, the company notes actual performance may vary based on conditions. Customers can now reserve the vehicle with a refundable $200 deposit.
