Samsung Electronics plans to launch a 115-inch RGB Micro LED TV in June as part of its ultra-premium lineup strategy, according to company executives. The new model represents Samsung’s latest move to strengthen its position in the high-end display market.

The RGB Micro LED TV uses red, green, and blue LEDs as its backlight source, which maintains higher color purity even after passing through color filters—offering improved performance over conventional white LED backlights used in existing Neo QLED models. The technology enables more local dimming zones for better contrast and promises 20% lower power consumption.

During a product launch event in Seoul, TV division head Yong Seok-woo revealed ambitious plans for the company’s OLED business. The company expects to significantly increase OLED TV shipments after selling approximately 1.4 million units in 2024. Samsung reported selling 140 million OLED TVs last year and aims to substantially expand this number in 2025 despite global economic uncertainties.

The RGB Micro LED TV will complement Samsung’s existing product line rather than replace current models. Positioned in the “ultra-premium” segment, the 115-inch version will debut first, with potential additional sizes including 75, 85, and 98-inch variants to follow.

Samsung has maintained its position as global TV market leader for 19 consecutive years, capturing 28.3% of global TV revenue in 2024. The company has experienced particularly strong growth in the OLED segment, with a 42% year-over-year increase in unit sales.

When asked about potential impacts from US tariffs, Yong noted Samsung’s exposure would be “limited” compared to competitors, as most of the company’s TV production for North America occurs in Mexico. “We operate 10 global production sites and will respond strategically through production allocation,” he said.

Samsung faces intensifying competition from Chinese manufacturers, particularly in mid-range TVs. The company plans to counter this threat by expanding its QLED and Neo QLED offerings in that segment while continuing to focus on premium and ultra-large displays where it maintains market leadership.
