Samsung Electronics posted third-quarter operating profit of 12.2 trillion won ($8.6 billion), more than doubling from the previous quarter as demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence servers helped the South Korean manufacturer recover from a prolonged slump.

The firm’s memory unit recorded its highest-ever quarterly sales at 26.7 trillion won ($18.8 billion), with revenue climbing 9% from a year earlier to 86.1 trillion won ($60.5 billion). The Device Solutions division, encompassing semiconductors, generated 7 trillion won ($4.9 billion) in operating profit.

Samsung attributed the sequential profit surge partly to reduced one-time inventory value adjustments rather than purely operational improvements. The company expanded sales of its HBM3E high-bandwidth memory while beginning mass production of 2-nanometer foundry chips using gate-all-around technology.

The mobile business benefited from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch, though the Visual Display unit swung to an operating loss as Chinese competitors intensified pressure. Samsung’s display affiliate posted 1.2 trillion won ($845 million) in profit on flagship smartphone panel demand.

Looking ahead, Samsung plans to prioritize HBM4 production while navigating continued weakness in its television and home appliance divisions, where U.S. tariffs and logistics costs remain headwinds.
