Samsung Electronics has committed 13.6 billion won ($10 million) to Skild AI’s Series B funding round, joining a consortium that includes NVIDIA and SoftBank Group in backing the robotics software startup.
The investment comes as part of a larger funding round that values the Pittsburgh-based company at approximately 6 trillion won ($4.5 billion), with NVIDIA contributing $25 million and SoftBank Group leading with $100 million. Additional Korean investors LG, Hanwha, and Mirae Asset have each committed between $5 million to $10 million.
Skild AI, founded in 2023, develops software for humanoid and quadruped walking robots. The company’s technology aims to create intelligent systems applicable across various robotic platforms.
For Samsung, the investment represents a calculated entry into robotics beyond its current vacuum cleaner offerings. The electronics giant, traditionally focused on home appliances, smartphones, and semiconductors, views this as preparation for the expanding robotics industry driven by AI advancement.
The startup previously raised $300 million at a $1.5 billion valuation in July 2024 from investors including Jeff Bezos and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Recent reports suggest SoftBank is separately negotiating a potential $500 million investment that could further elevate Skild’s valuation to $4 billion.
The funding underscores intensifying competition among technology companies to secure positions in the convergence of artificial intelligence and robotics, as the sector attracts increasing venture capital attention.
