Rovio and Sega Announce Production of “The Angry Birds Movie 3”

Rovio Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sega, announced today that production on “The Angry Birds Movie 3” is set to begin, with Prime Focus Studios and DNEG Animation as animation partners. This third installment in the popular animated series will be produced in collaboration with One Cool Group Ltd., Flywheel Media, and Dentsu.

The Angry Birds franchise, originating from a mobile game by Rovio with over 5 billion downloads worldwide as of 2022, continues to captivate audiences with its iconic characters. Jason Sudeikis will return as Red, and Josh Gad will reprise his role as Chuck, continuing their adventures.

The first two films, released in 2016 and 2019, grossed over US$500 million worldwide. John Rice will direct the new film, with Thurop Van Orman writing the screenplay and serving as executive producer. The production team includes experienced professionals such as Jeannie Zhang, Francesca Natale, Vadim Bazhanov, and Sarah K. Reimers, ensuring high-quality animation and storytelling.

Sega’s Representative Director and COO, Utsumi Shuji, expressed excitement about the new film, highlighting Sega’s transmedia strategy and its commitment to enhancing the Angry Birds brand value. Rovio CEO Alexandre Pelletier-Normand emphasized the brand’s global reach and the company’s dedication to creating engaging entertainment across multiple platforms.

The production partners, including DNEG Animation and Flywheel Media, shared their enthusiasm for the project, looking forward to bringing the vibrant world of Angry Birds to life once again. This collaboration aims to deliver a fresh and entertaining experience for audiences worldwide.
