Rosé, a member of the globally renowned K-pop group BLACKPINK, is in discussions to sign an exclusive contract with The Black Label, marking a potentially significant shift in her career. The Black Label confirmed the ongoing talks on the 17th, drawing widespread attention from fans and the music industry alike.

This news comes six months after BLACKPINK members decided to pursue individual activities outside of YG Entertainment. Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo have each established their own labels and embarked on solo careers, signaling a new phase for the group that debuted under YG Entertainment in 2016.

The Black Label, founded in 2016 by Teddy, a former member of 1TYM and a prolific producer, has been instrumental in producing numerous hit songs for YG artists, including BLACKPINK’s debut tracks “Whistle” and “Boombayah.” Teddy’s close working relationship with Rosé has fueled speculation about her potential move to the label.

In December 2022, YG Entertainment announced the renewal of BLACKPINK’s contract for group activities, boosting YG’s stock price by 25.63%. This renewal, along with BLACKPINK’s successful world tour that attracted 1.8 million attendees, contributed to a 45% increase in YG’s revenue, reaching NT$569.1 billion.

Recently, The Black Label appointed Jung Kyung-in, former CEO of game developer Pearl Abyss, as its CEO and relocated its headquarters to Itaewon, further establishing its independence from YG Entertainment. YG’s stake in The Black Label has decreased from 45% at the end of 2020 to 21.59% as of the first quarter of this year.

Rosé’s potential signing with The Black Label raises questions about the future of BLACKPINK as a group and the individual paths of its members. Lisa has announced new songs, Jennie is focused on her music projects, and Jisoo is dedicated to her acting career. Meanwhile, Rosé is preparing for her solo activities, building a personal fan base.

As BLACKPINK’s members embark on their solo journeys, the K-pop industry and fans worldwide are closely watching their next moves. Rosé’s potential move to The Black Label could signify a new chapter in her career, supported by Teddy’s influential production and the label’s growing independence. The developments in this story are eagerly anticipated, with significant implications for both the artists and their respective labels.
