Nintendo’s next-generation Switch console is moving closer to production, with Nvidia delivering 836,000 custom T239 processor chips to assembly facilities in Vietnam, according to industry sources familiar with the matter.

The shipment signals the final stages of preparation for the Switch 2, which is expected to debut before April 2025. Taiwan-based suppliers including Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Foxconn Technology Co., and Macronix International Co. are stockpiling components ranging from memory cards to mechanical parts.

The original Switch has sold 146 million units since its 2017 launch, with software sales reaching 1.36 billion units. The new model is rumored to feature dual screens, extended battery life, and artificial intelligence capabilities, though Nintendo hasn’t confirmed specifications.

Foxconn Technology indicated during a recent investor conference that gaming console business would improve significantly next year, particularly citing strong first-year performance of new models. The company supplies the mechanical components and casing for the device.

The timing of component shipments suggests Nintendo aims to capture market momentum in the first quarter of 2025, with suppliers expected to accelerate production by year-end to meet launch demands.
