Nintendo Co. revealed plans to release Switch 2, the successor to its hit hybrid gaming console, betting on hardware upgrades to maintain dominance in the competitive gaming market.
The Kyoto-based gaming giant will roll out a global demonstration tour starting April 2025, letting consumers test the new device in 13 cities across North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. The roadshow kicks off simultaneously in New York and Paris on April 4.
The new console will support both Switch 2 exclusive titles and existing Switch games, though Nintendo warned that some current games may not be fully compatible. The company has sold over 850 million hardware units globally since launching its first gaming system.
Nintendo will host a dedicated Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2 to share additional details about the new console. The event follows mounting pressure from mobile gaming and rival console makers who have been gaining market share.
Hong Kong and Taipei demonstration dates remain unannounced, highlighting potential supply chain challenges as Nintendo prepares for the launch. The company requires users to have a Nintendo Account to participate in demo events.
