Nintendo slashed its annual Switch sales forecast and trimmed its revenue outlook, signaling weakening demand for the aging gaming console in its eighth year on the market.
The Kyoto-based gaming giant now expects to sell 12.5 million Switch units in the fiscal year ending March 2025, down from its previous target of 13.5 million. The company also cut its revenue forecast to ¥1.28 trillion ($9.1 billion) from ¥1.35 trillion.
Sales fell 34% to ¥523.2 billion in the six months through September, while operating profit dropped 57% to ¥121.5 billion. The sharp decline reflects tough comparisons with last year when “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” boosted game sales.
Recent game releases showed mixed performance. “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” sold 2.58 million copies since its September launch, while “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door” moved 1.94 million units.
Nintendo aims to maintain Switch momentum through new titles like “Super Mario Party Jamboree” in October and “Mario & Luigi: Brothership” in November, though analysts question whether these can reverse the platform’s declining sales trajectory.
