K-pop group NewJeans will return to management agency ADOR, ending a yearlong legal fight that tested the boundaries of artist independence in South Korea’s entertainment industry. The decision follows an October court ruling that validated the group’s exclusive contracts through 2029.
Members Haerin and Hyein confirmed their return after consulting with family members and the agency, Yonhap reported. The remaining three members—Danielle, Minji and Hanni—issued a separate statement acknowledging their decision, noting one member’s location in Antarctica delayed their announcement.
The Seoul Central District Court ruled in late October that ADOR hadn’t breached its obligations despite dismissing former CEO Min Hee-jin, who had served as the group’s creative director. NewJeans initially announced plans to appeal that verdict, citing destroyed trust with the agency.
The legal dispute began in November 2024 when the five-member group declared their intention to terminate contracts, accusing ADOR of failing to protect them after Min’s removal. The court rejected those claims, finding the agency continued preparing albums and tours while offering Min a revised producer role, which she declined.
ADOR, a unit of entertainment conglomerate Hybe Corp., said it has completed preparations for new activities including a full-length album.
