Bandai Namco Film Works revealed that the upcoming original animation, “Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance,” will exclusively debut worldwide on Netflix. The series, set in the Universal Century during the One Year War, was initially unveiled at Anime Expo 2023 and is a collaborative effort between Japan’s Bandai Namco Film Works, American CG production company SAFEHOUSE, and Sunrise, renowned for its Gundam series.
Directed by German filmmaker Erasmus Brosdau, known for “Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness,” the production will utilize Unreal Engine 5, a cutting-edge technology in 3DCG video production. The project signifies a unique collaboration with international partners and introduces new technologies and expressions within the Gundam universe.
The storyline, set in the familiar world of Mobile Suit Gundam, focuses on the European front during the One Year War, a perspective rarely explored in previous series. The series comprises six 30-minute episodes, a format longer than a typical movie but slightly shorter than a standard TV series. The screenplay, crafted by Gavin Heinnight, known for works like “Tekken: Bloodline” and “Transformers: His Cyberverse,” adds an international flavor to the project.
This strategic decision for exclusive worldwide distribution on Netflix aligns with the global reach and diverse audience of the streaming platform. Accompanying the announcement, a second teaser PV has been released, showcasing iconic mecha like the Zaku, generating excitement in anticipation of the series premiere.
