MediaTek Inc.’s revenue reached NT$531 billion (US$16.8 billion) in 2024, marking its second-highest annual performance despite cooling demand in December. The Taiwanese chipmaker saw its December sales drop 7.9% month-on-month to NT$41.7 billion (US$1.3 billion), reflecting seasonal patterns in the smartphone market.
The company’s fourth-quarter revenue of NT$138 billion (US$4.4 billion) surpassed its earlier guidance, helped by stronger adoption of its Dimensity 9400 flagship processor. Several major Chinese smartphone makers, including Vivo, OPPO, and Redmi, have incorporated the chip into their premium models.
Looking ahead, MediaTek is betting on the growing market for custom AI accelerators, which it projects will reach US$45 billion by 2028. The chipmaker has already secured deals with leading Chinese automakers for smart cockpit systems and is expanding its automotive portfolio.
The company’s growth strategy also leverages Taiwan’s semiconductor supply chain, with procurement reaching NT$200 billion (US$6.3 billion) in the first nine months of 2024. MediaTek expects its gross margin to stay between 46% and 48%, supported by increased penetration in high-end smartphones and the rollout of Wi-Fi 7 products.
