MediaTek, known primarily for smartphone processors, is expanding into high-performance computing through a collaboration with Nvidia on the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, designed for personal AI supercomputers.
The partnership marks MediaTek’s most ambitious push beyond its core mobile chip business, where it leads the market in smartphones and smart TVs. The Taiwanese company will contribute its expertise in power efficiency and Arm-based system-on-chip design to Nvidia’s Project DIGITS, a personal AI computing initiative.
MediaTek’s CEO Rick Tsai said the collaboration aligns with making advanced technology more accessible, while Nvidia’s Jensen Huang highlighted how the partnership would drive innovation in AI computing.
The deal builds on existing cooperation between the companies, including MediaTek’s integration of Nvidia’s GPU technology in its automotive cockpit chips. The companies are also partnering on edge AI capabilities for IoT applications through Nvidia’s TAO toolkit.
While MediaTek has established itself in consumer electronics, analysts say the move into high-performance AI computing could help diversify its revenue streams beyond the competitive mobile chip market. The company continues to expand its product portfolio across smartphones, IoT devices, smart TVs, Chromebooks, and automotive platforms.
