LG Uplus Corp. and SM Entertainment Co. have announced a groundbreaking collaboration to develop content for SM’s first virtual artist, Nævis, utilizing LG Uplus’ generative AI technology, ixi-GEN. This partnership, formalized through a business agreement on August 29, marks a significant step in blending AI with entertainment to create a dynamic and versatile virtual character.
Nævis, originally introduced in the narrative universe of SM’s girl group aespa as a helper capable of bridging the real and digital worlds, is now set to take her first steps into reality. The virtual artist, presented by the SM Virtual IP Center, will debut in September and engage in a wide range of activities that leverage the latest AI technology. Nævis is designed as a flexible character, capable of adapting her appearance and voice to suit various platforms, content types, and media.
This AI-driven character is expected to expand her intellectual property (IP) universe beyond music into webtoons, games, and brand collaborations. SM Entertainment plans to build on her backstory, transforming Nævis from a digital assistant to a full-fledged artist in the real world. This narrative expansion is supported by AI-generated content, creating a unique blend of technology and storytelling that pushes the boundaries of traditional entertainment.
Anticipation for Nævis’ debut has been building, particularly after the release of a teaser video on August 21, which showcased her transition from the digital world to the real world. Additionally, a follow-up video, “The Birth of Nævis,” has been released on August 23, further detailing her evolution. Nævis has already made a mark by featuring in aespa’s track “Welcome To MY World” from their third mini-album, “MY WORLD,” and by performing at aespa’s second solo concert, “2024 aespa LIVE TOUR – SYNK : PARALLEL LINE –” in June.
