LG Energy Solution has formed a strategic alliance with Doosan Bobcat to develop specialized battery pack solutions for the construction industry, marking a significant expansion of electrification in heavy equipment.
Under the agreement announced Tuesday, LG Energy Solution will supply cylindrical batteries designed to withstand harsh operating environments for integration into Doosan Bobcat’s construction machinery, including skid-steer loaders and excavators. The companies will focus on creating standardized battery systems targeted primarily at the North American market.
The partnership addresses critical performance requirements for construction equipment that faces challenging conditions including extreme temperatures, dust exposure, and demanding operational cycles. LG Energy Solution’s cylindrical cells were selected for their durability, high voltage capabilities, and performance in low-temperature environments.
Park Hyun-chul, Doosan Bobcat’s vice president and chief strategy officer, cited LG’s quality and stability as key factors in the decision, while Oh Yoo-sung from LG Energy Solution emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding electrification technology.
The collaboration may extend beyond construction equipment to agricultural and landscaping machinery, including tractors. LG Energy Solution also indicated plans to enter other mobility sectors such as aviation and marine applications as part of its broader electrification strategy.
