Krafton Inc., South Korea’s gaming powerhouse, announced on Wednesday that it has made a strategic investment in SpoonLabs, the company behind the global audio platform Spoon and the newly launched short-form drama platform, Vigloo. This marks Krafton’s largest investment in a non-gaming company to date.
Vigloo, an over-the-top (OTT) service specializing in short-form dramas with episodes around two minutes in length, is available in seven languages, including Korean, English, and Chinese. SpoonLabs has already released 60 exclusive short-form dramas on Vigloo and plans to introduce 120 more by the end of the year.
Krafton cited SpoonLabs’ proven technological capabilities, global service track record, and the potential for growth in the short-form drama market as key reasons for the investment. The deal also provides opportunities for Krafton to leverage original intellectual property from SpoonLabs for its own business expansion.
This move underscores Krafton’s strategy to diversify beyond gaming while tapping into the rapidly growing OTT content sector.
