Hyundai Motor Group has announced a strategic partnership with Toray Industries Inc., the world’s leading producer of carbon fiber, to co-develop materials for electric vehicles (EVs). This partnership aims to leverage Toray’s expertise in carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) and other composite materials to create lighter and more robust components for Hyundai’s EVs.
The collaboration was formalized at a signing ceremony at Hyundai’s headquarters in Seoul, attended by top executives from both companies, including Hyundai Motor Chief Executive Chang Jae-hoon and Toray Industries Chairman Akihiro Nikkaku. This alliance is part of Hyundai’s strategy to fortify its position as a pioneer in the global mobility solutions sector.
Hyundai plans to use this partnership to develop high-performance, environmentally friendly vehicles by integrating Toray’s advanced material technologies with its own automotive manufacturing capabilities. Toray’s ongoing expansion, including the recent construction of a new carbon fiber production facility in Korea, underscores its commitment to supporting the automotive industry’s shift towards electrification and sustainability.
This partnership is expected to not only advance Hyundai’s vehicle design and safety features but also strengthen its competitiveness in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market. With an emphasis on sustainability, Hyundai and Toray are set to lead innovations in the materials sector of the future mobility industry.
