HYBE Co. is accelerating its transformation into a platform company with the launch of THEUS, a new digital fan community platform. THEUS, developed by HYBE’s digital subsidiary Binary Korea, allows individual creators to engage with their audiences and monetize their content. The official launch is scheduled for June 22, following a successful beta phase that attracted 20,000 users.
THEUS offers a unique interactive space where creators can upload content and directly interact with their fans. Notable Korean creators such as DDotty and Yell sister have already joined, enhancing the platform’s appeal.
HYBE’s move mirrors its earlier success with Weverse, a similar platform for fan-artist interactions. This strategy aligns with HYBE’s long-term plan to evolve into a “lifestyle multiplatform company,” as outlined in its March annual report.
HYBE has diversified its business portfolio in recent years, incorporating game development through HYBE Interactive Media and AI audio technology via SuperTone. The push into the creator economy highlights HYBE’s commitment to leveraging digital platforms for growth.
However, challenges remain. Despite the creator economy’s buzz, platforms like THEUS must develop sustainable profit models. HYBE’s Weverse recorded significant losses in 2023, underscoring the importance of profitability in this competitive landscape.
