Foxconn Technology Group will host an electric vehicle strategy event in Tokyo on April 9, seeking to woo more Japanese automakers after securing its first EV manufacturing deal with Mitsubishi Motors Corp.
Jun Seki, Foxconn’s head of EV strategy, will address representatives from major Japanese carmakers and parts suppliers at the event, according to sources familiar with the matter. The company plans to outline its EV business capabilities and strategic direction.
The Mitsubishi agreement, which involves manufacturing electric vehicles for markets in Oceania including Australia, represents a significant validation of Foxconn’s manufacturing prowess, according to market research firm TrendForce.
Industry sources note that Southeast Asia accounts for approximately 30% of Mitsubishi’s global sales, but Japanese automakers face mounting pressure as Chinese manufacturers rapidly expand their presence in the region.
Beyond Mitsubishi, Foxconn is exploring partnerships with Nissan Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co., the sources said. The Taiwan-based company, officially known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., aims to use the Tokyo event to further penetrate the Japanese market.
