DeNA Co. returned to profitability for the fiscal year ended March, posting a ¥24.19 billion ($161 million) net profit versus a ¥28.68 billion loss a year earlier, driven primarily by its hit mobile game “Pokémon TCG Pocket.”
The Tokyo-based gaming and entertainment firm reported a 19.9% revenue increase to ¥163.99 billion, with its gaming division seeing a remarkable 1,016% profit surge. The Pokémon digital card game, launched in October 2024 in partnership with Pokémon and Creatures Inc., propelled the company’s dramatic turnaround after a difficult previous year that included substantial impairment losses.
DeNA’s sports business also contributed positively as the Yokohama DeNA BayStars baseball team won both the Central League’s Climax Series and the Japan Series championship. The team achieved record attendance figures, helping boost segment revenue by 14.8%.
Despite this success, the company declined to provide financial guidance for the fiscal year ending March 2026, citing difficulties in making reasonable projections. DeNA cautioned investors that while the Pokémon card game continues to perform well, they expect some deceleration from its initial momentum.
The company also signaled a strategic shift in game development, announcing plans to prioritize “soft launch” strategies rather than traditional development methods for upcoming titles.
